چکیده

Implicit modeling eases the design and animation of complex objects; however, it does not solve the problem completely for extremely complex surface design problems and for modeling volumetric phenomena. Procedural techniques are another growing solution to this problem because of their exibility, parametric control, and abstraction of speciication. This paper discusses how to combine existing procedural mod-eling techniques with implicit modeling to provide a solution to the problem of modeling complex surfaces and volumetric clouds. We demonstrate the usefulness of combining volumetric procedural models with implicit surfaces for modeling volumetric clouds. We also show the advantage of using procedural genetic programming techniques to mate implicit surfaces. These combinations of techniques produce extensible, exible, and powerful tools for modeling.

Controlled Blending of Procedural Implicit Surfaces

Implicit surfaces are becoming increasingly popular in geometric modeling. Procedurally defined implicit surfaces, in particular surfaces built around skeletons, provide an intuitive representation for many natural objects, and objects commonly used in geometric modeling. This paper presents several techniques that provide good control over the way different skeletally defined implicit surfaces...

Procedural Modeling as an Analytical Tool for 3D Survey in Urban Design Assessment

This paper examines procedural modeling as a tool for 3D modeling creation. Procedural modeling historically has been used for 3D visualization of natural features, but with the release of the software CityEngine in 2008, the technology can easily be adopted also in problem domains dealing with urban environments. Then, we will examine and compare two types of modeling, traditional and proc...

A runtime cache for interactive procedural modeling

We present an efficient runtime cache to accelerate the display of procedurally displaced and textured implicit surfaces, exploiting spatio-temporal coherence between consecutive frames. We cache evaluations of implicit textures covering a conceptually infinite space. Rotating objects, zooming onto surfaces, and locally deforming shapes now requires minor cache updates per frame and benefits fr...

Sketch Based Construction and Rendering of Implicit Models

We present an implicit modeling system as a tool for creating a wide range of aesthetic models. Because of their ability to form blends and produce both organic shapes as well as man-made objects, implicit surfaces are a good medium for artists seeking new ways to experiment with 3D modeling. Implicit models can be created using our sketch-based modeling tool Shapeshop and also by using a proce...

Free - Form Deformation for Implicit Surfaces

Implicit surfaces offer many advantages for sketch-based modeling systems, such as blending, CSG, and a procedural object hierarchy. Free-form deformation (FFD) is also extremely useful in this context, however existing FFD approaches do not support implicit surface representations, and FFD lattice manipulation is time-consuming compared to sketch-based techniques. In this thesis, an FFD techni...
